A) Diffusa est gratia in labiis tuis: propterea benedixit te Deus in aeternum. B) Senex puerum portabat: puer autem senem regebat: quem virgo peperit, et post partum virgo permansit: ipsum quem genuit, adoravit. Translation: A) Grace flows from your lips, because God has blessed you for ever. B) An ancient held up an Infant, but the Infant upheld the ancient. A Child he was that a Virgin bore, and kept her as Virgin evermore. The one whom she brought forth, she did adore.

Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace: Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum Quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum: Lumen ad revelationem gentium, et gloriam plebis tuae Israel. Translation: Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace: according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen: thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared: before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles: and to be the glory of thy people Israel.

1 Veni Sancte Spiritus et emitte caelitus lucis tuae radium. Veni pater pauperum, veni dator munerum, veni lumen cordium. 2 Consolator optime, dulcis hospes animae, dulce refrigerium. In labore requies, in aestu temperies, in fletu solacium. 3 O lux beatissima, reple cordis intima tuorum fidelium. Amen. Alleluia. Translation: Come, Holy Spirit, send forth the heavenly radiance of your light. Come, father of the poor, come, giver of gifts, come, light of the heart. Greatest comforter, sweet guest of the soul, sweet consolation. In labour, rest, in heat, temperance, in tears, solace. O most blessed light, fill the inmost heart of your faithful. Without your spirit, there is nothing in man, nothing that is not harmful. Cleanse that which is unclean, water that which is dry, heal that which is wounded. Bend that which is inflexible, fire that which is chilled, correct what goes astray. Give to your faithful, those who trust in you, the sevenfold gifts. Grant the reward of virtue, grant the deliverance of salvation, grant eternal joy.

Factus est repente de coelo sonus, tamquam advenientis spiritus vehementis ubi erant sedentes, alleluia; et repleti sunt omnes Spiritu Sancto, loquentes magnalia Dei, alleluia, alleluia. Translation: Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming where they were sitting, alleluia; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking the wonderful works of God, alleluia, alleluia.
5.
Sedebit Dominus Rex in aeternum. Dominus virtutem populo suo dabit. Dominus benedicet populo suo in pace. Translation: The Lord shall sit King for ever. The Lord will give strength to his people. The Lord will bless his people with peace.
6.
Postula a me 02:36
Postula a me, et dabo tibi gentes hereditatem tuam, et possessionem tuam terminos terrae. Translation: Ask of Me and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession.
7.
O sacrum convivium, in quo Christus sumitur; recolitur memoria passionis ejus; mens impletur gratia; et futurae gloriae nobis pignus datur. Panem de caelo praestitisti eis Omnem delectamentum in se habentem. Translation: O sacred banquet, wherein Christ is received; the memorial of his passion is renewed; the soul is filled with grace; and a pledge of future glory is given to us. You gave them bread from heaven Containing in itself all sweetness.
8.
Tantum ergo 03:48
Amen. Translation: Therefore so great a Sacrament Let us fall down and worship, And let the old law Give way to a new rite, And let faith stand forward To make good the defects of sense. To the Father and the Son Be praise and joy, Health, honour and virtue And blessing, And to him proceeding from both Be equal praise. Amen.

about

"Music For High Feast Days" is a set of eight liturgical pieces that I have written over the past several years while singing bass with the Mount Calvary Choir. Pairs of motets were commissioned by the choirmaster, Dr. Allen Buskirk, for offertory and communion on four high feast days: Candlemas, Pentecost, Christ The King, and Corpus Christi. In each case, Latin texts associated with each of these Catholic masses were set for both unaccompanied SATB choir and, most frequently, a solo or duet with organ accompaniment. These motets bring together influences from Late Medieval and Renaissance polyphony to Islamic adhan and Sufi chant, composers such as Moondog, Merideth Monk, modern post-minimalist textures, and drone music.
