about

Sampling from pianist Jacqueline C. Leung's performance of Bartok's Mikrokosmos Book 6, No. 149 (itself based on folk music of Eastern Europe), a sequence is sliced according to two different time signatures and placed on separate sides of the stereo field. This piece explores polyrhythm emerging from phasing loops, along with microsound manipulation of this same source material by my daughter on theremin controlling a MakeNoise Phonogene and other voltage-controlled modules in a Eurorack modular system. Other beat layers added using Korg Volca Beats and Volca Sample, and software instruments in Ableton Live.
